How USD/LKR exchange rates work

Every morning Sri Lankans check the dollar rate. Lankawa pulls the official daily table from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) and shows the selling rate as the headline number.

What this means

CBSL publishes a daily reference table with separate buying and selling rates for the US dollar. Banks and licensed money changers use these as a benchmark, but they may add margins, fees, or inventory limits.

Lankawa's headline USD/LKR value is the CBSL selling rate — the rate at which the central bank would sell dollars to licensed dealers on that business day. The buying rate (shown in the card note) is what dealers receive when selling dollars back.

Rates update on CBSL's business-day schedule, not continuously like a forex trading screen. A Fresh badge means we fetched the latest published table within our expected cadence; Stale means the table is older than expected but still displayed.

If you are remitting, importing, or settling a large invoice, compare the CBSL reference with your bank or exchange counter — Lankawa is a civic reference, not a quote for your transaction.

What we will not claim

We do not predict tomorrow's rate, recommend a money changer, or guarantee that any commercial counter will match CBSL's published table.
