USGS Earthquake Event API

Overview

Recent earthquake catalog entries within Sri Lanka's land bounding box.

Methodology

Lankawa queries the USGS FDSN Event Web Service with the same Sri Lanka land bounds used on district maps (79.5°E–82.1°E, 5.9°N–9.9°N), a rolling 30-day window, and magnitude ≥ 2.5. Results are shown as-is with no severity scoring — an empty list means USGS has no qualifying events in that box, not that seismic risk is zero. Offshore Indian Ocean events outside the land bbox are excluded by design.
